Andy Shore was born in Nottinghamshire but has spent most of his life in rural Leicestershire where he now lives with his wife and two teenage children. He began painting more than twenty-five years ago and is completely self-taught. Andy uses a variety of media including oils and pastels but his most practised medium is watercolour.
He loves to paint local scenes and is inspired by his fascination with light and shade. “There is something special about the way the light looks in watercolours. I am a traditionalist, a purist, in my technique. I don’t add white paint afterwards. I use the white of the paper as my highlight”.
Currently working at DeMontfort University Leicester as a technical instructor in Art and Design, Andy has had a varied career working for Team Lotus Formula 1 as a model maker in aerodynamics, as a scenic artist for a theatrical theming company and also restoring historic racing cars.
Andy is a member of the Leicester Sketch Club and performs art demonstrations and workshops for art societies.
